Ma-ma's

Haven't written much about the works at Sweetie's new place, but they are going on at the same time. Sweetie fusses a lot less than us; her home reno is much simpler. Plus, she's going to have some of our current stuff in her new place - that saves quite a bit of money and furniture-shopping effort (It'll be quite funny to see the madeover furniture in her place though!). But Sweetie, being sweet, has been collecting boxes - and giving them to us first instead of using them for herself.

Sweetie (and Ma-ma and Godma) didn't use to always stay across from where we are now. Long long ago, they stayed at Newton Circus, in a 2-room flat (that's where Finance Minister, Sweetie and all my uncles & aunties grew up too). I vaguely remember visiting as a child, sitting on a deep maroon PVC/leather sofa or playing at the stairs just outside the flat. I also recall watching Sweetie dress up in the mornings to go to work at a sports shop, and messing with her makeup.

Then they moved over to our area. Actually, to the block just a carpark away. That made it much easier for us to see them. Made it easier for Finance Minister and Sweetie to hang out and do things. I don't know exactly now, but it must be at least 20 years since they moved to our area!

I realise I'll miss Sweetie's old place (which we also call Ma-ma's House) too. It was at Ma-ma's that I had dramatic Barbie adventures - worked out epic storylines with my cousin. Played pirates and camping with Karate Kid using tekkor and clothes pegs. And flew plastic-bag kites with my uncle - right out of Ma-ma's 9th storey kitchen window.  When we walked through the carpark to get to their block, sometimes Godma would stand at the kitchen window and yell loudly at us - so the entire neighbourhood would know that we were visiting :-p

Funny memories...

This is Happy - Sweetie's terrapin. We'll give him a headstart on the move - he can begin crawling there now...

  1. It is a blessing to have such beautiful memories of your childhood! Many people don't. I also used to fly plastic bag kites from our windows! :)
