The place is coming together. He tells us that since almost all the carpentry work is being done in the factory, when it all comes back to go into the house, it'll be very fast. So I savoured what might be the last couple of views of the house as a relatively empty space. At least, the last couple of views of a plain timber floor.
The timber is nice, even just looking at its dusty, unbuffed, nails-sticking-out-in-dangerous-places state. The strips are a nice tone. I must have talked about the timber before, no? We have 12-inch short strip Burmese teak timber for the bedroom floors. We are told that Burmese teak is better because
- the grain is finer i.e. don't see as much lines in the wood. smoother finish i guess
- the wood is older and therefore contains more teak oil, which apparently keeps the termites away
- it's of a nicer tone (golden honey brown colour)
- it suffers our climate better than woods from Europe or the Americas.
