Bartley Circuit

Rainy afternoons are nice. When you're at home. Think of a long uninterrupted nap with a fluffy pillow... but not today. Christmas is coming! - there's much planning to be done. Just like every other year. Except, this year, there's the new place as well. Sigh. Will be the last Christmas we spend here. Perhaps we should have a really nice party.

We did the Bartley Circuit yesterday. My first trip on the yet-to-be-fully-ready Circle Line. We stopped at Bishan first, had an impossibly large lunch (the biggest serving of 된장찌개 [Korean beancurd miso soup] I've ever seen at a foodcourt - a bottomless bowl!), then headed to Bartley. A beautifully empty train - so clear we could see the carriages snaking their way through the tunnel.

Did you know the Bartley station has a very interesting feature? A floor to ceiling wall made up of framed 1-cent coins! Really cool. Some coins are newer and more shiny, others are tarnished with age and use, extremely grimy. Quite fascinating. If the coins could tell their stories, imagine how many tales there would be!

Leaving Bartley, we went to Om (134 Joo Seng Road). Disappointing. Perhaps because we were there the weekend after a sale. Their Liang Court outlet was better. Next stop - Lush (73 Upper Paya Lebar Road). Disappointing. We were told that the Kim Keat outlet stocked more chair designs. Went across the road to Marquis - breezed through it in 3 minutes.

Travelled down Upper Paya Lebar and got ourselves to Comfort Design (110 Eunos Ave 7). Better - we saw the replicas we were looking for, and other designs. It's a decent place to check out for chairs of all sorts. Walked our way out of the area and went over to Enterprise One (1 Kaki Bukit Road), and popped into Mode Studio, XZQT and Winter International. Ok. Saw a few possible coffee tables, but no decisions made.

Find of the day? Homemade milk bread (fresh from the oven!) from a run-down bakery near Lush. Mini thick sliced bread, each piece 7x7cm. Like a kids' version of a Gardenia loaf. Very cute. Hmm, perhaps I should get a couple of loaves and make garlic bread for a Christmas dinner party?...
