80

What do you usually do in the mornings while having breakfast (if you have the habit of breakfast at all)? I usually read The Straits Times. But this morning, I was busy calculating shoe rack dimensions over a sorry slice of bread and piping hot green tea. Was up much later than everyone else, so by the time I hit the breakfast table, Granite Man and Finance Minister had gone through a full inspection of our current shoe stash, and were projecting future needs.

Finance Minister's eyes glazed over as she tried to convert shoe box dimensions into estimated capacity of our future shoe rack, so I junked the newspapers and did my sums. Based on a 2-section, floor to ceiling shoe rack, divided by and concealing the bomb shelter door. If we place the shoe boxes in with the long side facing us, we can comfortably fit 5 pairs of shoes across the combined width, and 16 pairs from floor to ceiling. 5 x 16 = 80 pairs. Which happens to be our psychological barrier. Woo-hoo!

[We've been asked, why don't you junk the shoe boxes and just get the shoes in? You can fit many more pairs in that way. True. But we love our shoes, so each pair of shoes gets its own box (labelled), and they are wrapped in paper/plastic with a few good packs of silica gel. I haven't gone down the road of using clear shoe boxes yet, so still ok lah!]

The math out of the way, we had a fabulous lunch at Basilico (buffet lunch at S$38.00++ per pax - I highly recommend), and finished up great coffee gelato before coming back to meet Creative #4 (2nd meeting). The good news? We were given a novel idea for the shoe rack which gives us space for about 100 pairs. The bad news? It nullifed all my mental sums from the morning. :-p
